I love this time of year because fall dressing is just so fun. The color palettes are beautiful, it’s a little cold outside but not too cold, and if you know me, you know fall dresses are my favorite thing to talk about. I’m very, very picky about the dresses I approve of, especially when it comes to dresses for family photos! I take that job seriously because I know how much it means to you guys.
I’ve been doing this for a few years now, so I went through and found the top fall dresses for moms that are especially perfect for family photos. I paid close attention to the cut, the length, the sleeve length, and the styles that I know photograph well from personal experience. These are the ones that made the cut as my top contenders this year.
BODEN CORDUROY DRESS
This is actually the second year in a row I’ve put this Boden corduroy dress on my top fall list, because it’s such a great dress. The style is so cute and so flattering, and it’s one of those dresses you can wear day-to-day but also dress up. It’s super cute with ballet flats, boots, or sandals. I love the button details and the tie belt, and there are about four really cute color options for family photos. I especially love the navy and the brown!
I love Boden because their dresses are great quality – classic, timeless, my favorite. This one is true to size.
GAP DENIM DRESS
I always include some form of a denim dress in my top fall dresses, because denim just screams “fall” to me, and a denim dress will never go out of style. It’s a dress you’ll be wearing for years to come. This denim dress from GAP has the perfect sleeve length, and the bodice comes in nicely so it gives you a great silhouette. I love the collar detail and the length! It’s gorgeous, it’s flattering, it’s timeless.

This Ivy City Co. floral midi dress has such pretty fall colors, and if you’re picking outfits for family photos, you could pair so many different colors with it. Every time I share it, I get so many questions about it, and it was a top seller last year. It actually sold out, and they brought it back this year. Sizes are fully stocked right now, and it’s true to size.
I love Ivy City Co. dresses because they are beautiful and unique, and the quality is fantastic. About 99.9% of the dresses I’ve ever gotten from them are fully lined, which is so nice as a mom because you don’t have to wear a million layers or worry about anything being see-through! They are so well thought out, and you can tell they’re made by a woman. I just love the brand.
LYON FLORAL MAXI DRESS
I became obsessed with this floral Sundance Maxi dress last year, and it has the most beautiful fall colors throughout it. I love the personality of this dress, the sleeve length, and the cut of the neck. It’s gorgeous in every way, shape, and form! I actually included it in some of the outfit ideas in my fall family photo style guide because it’s so good and would photograph so well, and it’s not like everything else out there.

I have a picture of me in last year’s version of the Ivy City Co. floral maxi dress, and it was one of the most-sold dresses I’ve ever shared on my page! They didn’t bring back that exact pattern, but this new pattern is almost more gorgeous. The mauve throughout it is so beautiful.
What I loved, and what you told me you loved last year, was the sleeve length. It almost has a midi, classy feel to it.
